This is Albert Street, where our hotel is. Around the corner, to the right of Victoria Street, is the Reverse Bungy Ride. It hoists you up in the air at a speed of 5Gs, suspends you twirling on the ropes, pretty much like a tag-string toy, for what must seem like a very long time when you're up there, and sends you hurtling down in what, for all my spunk, would have been a deliberate crash. We stayed 9 days in that hotel, walking this street at all times of the day, and I only saw the ride come alive once. I have to tell you, I am not surprised at all.
The Sky City tower at daytime. The slots you see towards the top, just beneath the outer ring, are windows to the revolving restaurant. A pity we didn't get to eat there but we had dinner Wednesday night at the upper restaurant. The view was spectacular. And they have these elevators with glass floors that go straight down to the ground with nothing to catch you should it break. In the observatory, the same thing is repeated... part of the floor made in glass, probably a foot wide and a yard long. The sign says the glass is 38mm thick and is as strong as the rest of the floor. Well, if you ask me, it's still glass. And last I heard, glass still breaks.
Tbe Sky City tower at night. Wherever we go within the city perimeter, this tower would lead us right back to the hotel. Like the north star, it's always there to guide us.
From where we are taking this picture, facing the pub across the street, is the casino. Across the pub, to the left, is where Denny's is. In the mornings, going to or coming from breakfast, we'd see people in this pub just about to wind up a long night. Once, I saw nobody in it but a couple, dancing slow to some music. Obviously drunk, but it was terribly sweet.
Alright, I'm sure you'll agree that this is a much better picture. Behind us is the Ferry Building, and to the right is the Princes Wharf, home to the Maritime Museum and a range of restaurants and bars that seem to be a favorite night spot for visitors and locals alike. My personal favorite is The Grill.
That's the front facade of the Ferry Building. Right across is the Global Culture, where we bought Papa's shirt that says, 'Bar Bar Bar Baa Baa Baa. And that about sums it up. New Zealand.' hahaha!
'Shakespeare Hotel Brewery.' I guess I should have asked somebody to help me make sense of it. But I didn't feel it would have been proper, being that I was having vodka instead of their good old ale.
That's the Phillips Fox building, reflecting the Sky City tower. Some things just accidentally become perfect.
That's just me in front of a mall, looking and feeling so at home on these streets. Just an observation, their malls here are so small.
