1. new panties
I buy a bunch at a time, whenever the opportunity presents itself. But I don't wear them all at once after washing. They go under the pile in my dresser drawer, from which I pick whatever's on top, all the while anticipating the time that I'd get to wear the new ones. Sometimes I couldn't contain myself from sheer excitement!
2. non-working holidays
Never mind that every given day is a nonworking day for me. I get excited at the prospect of not having to get up from bed early to send Papa off to work. I get excited thinking of what we could do together that day, of the meals we'd eat together. I even get excited at the thought of sharing an afternoon nap with him... and everything else that goes with it... hehehe.
3. weekends
You'd think I get excited about weekends for the same reasons I get excited about non-working holidays. But no... we haven't really spent a whole weekend at home all by ourselves for the past 2 months. Since we moved to California, I find ourselves spending our weekends hosted for lunch or dinner by friends, sometimes a handful of them at a time. That is so different from our weekends in Singapore when we'd often be home and I'd still be busy with chores... even more so because I get to cook more meals, unless Papa cooks, or unless our Singapore-based friends decide they want to get together. Now, a weekend can pass by that I never have to stand in front of the stove. Sometimes we get to pack a bag and spend it somewhere else. Aaah... sweet pleasures.
4. Barnes and Noble and Yankee Candles
Believe me, I get excited shopping for books and candles more than I get excited shopping for clothes. Well, alright. You can throw in Target, Walmart and Big Lots cause I also get excited shopping for household stuff more than I would for clothes.
5. Saturday midnight
It's when I call home and I get to talk to my whole family. Isn't it great when people actually wait for your call and wait in line to talk to you? I feel so loved!
6. YouSendIt
We get to swap music files with the blogkadahan group and gosh, our collection is growing by leaps and bounds everyday! I wake up and turn on my computer and there to greet me is a whole lot of music to listen to! It's just so great! Sending my files over is even more exciting! Notice the exclamation points? It's really that exciting! hehehe...
7. watching a movie the good, ol' way
Yup, even with DVD players and Netflix, for me, nothing beats going to the movie theatre to watch a movie, and getting all teary-eyed while trying my best to hide it from those I meet on my way out. I so look forward to the nachos-cheese dip-diet coke combo I can always have at the movies if I wanted them. I collect the ticket stubs, for pete's sake!
8. long drives
Yes, I like long road trips. I like reading the signs on the freeway. I like discovering nice pee stops, even more when it's in an In and Out or IHops. I like listening to music in a moving car. I like listening to music while I sleep in a moving car. And most of all, I like how road trips don't jam my ears.
9. having a favorite restaurant
If you frequent it often enough, people there will get to know you and when you come in, they wave. I get excited just thinking about what I could have there and I don't really mind eating the same dish for several days. I'd even skip meals just so I'd have enough room to finish my food.
10. day's end
No profound reason. Just that work is done, people throw in their towels, roll up their sleeves and holler, 'Honey, I'm home!' After all these years, that still excites me.
