This is the site where I watched the film 'Anino' (Shadows). I got my review there but I wasn't able to get every word in. The following is the full review I wrote.
I am rather ambivalent about this film. Sans symbolism and all that stuff, we see a man having a very bad day. I've been reading the comments, by Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike, and they got to me more than the film did. I just want to point out that this is not everything that the Philippines is all about. Bullies, down-and-outers, heartless rich men riding a rich man's car, tricksters and thieves, dumps?... we see them everywhere and anywhere. But I for one have seen lush and green at home, I know a lot of very warm and kind-hearted people. I'm not sure if I'm out of line or out of context but I really wouldn't want this to represent my country. It's a very nice realistic film probably, but my heart keeps shouting that this is not all there is to it... this is not all there is to the Philippines, and to the Filipino. The main character could have asked for a glass of water at the canteen and he could have been given one... we do that, don't we? That would have put a balance to things. That would have been a Filipino story, not just the story of a man having a bad day.
