These past couple of weeks has been a time of firsts for me.

Strawberry ice-cream. That's right... I've never had strawberry ice-cream before. I've always had chocolate (boring me, huh... never dared to be different... heh) and sometimes I would have mango or pistacchio. But never strawberry. We invited Antonia for lunch the week-end Papa came back from Australia and she brought Wall's Very Berry Strawberry. It's not that I don't like strawberry... just never appealed to me. And guess what, I actually liked it. Bless Antonia for showing me the way... heh.

Bailey's. That afternoon, Antonia also brought a bottle of chardonnay but we didn't have a cork screw so we weren't able to open it. So we settled for the bottle of Bailey's Original Irish Cream that was sitting in the ref for as long as I can remember. Gee, that monster really kicked me flat out. I do drink and when I was still doing the pubs regularly in Manila, I could handle double orders of tequila sunrise and tom collins quite well. That's 4 glasses of cocktails for you. But this monster was totally different. Within minutes, I was snoring. I didn't even get to finish the shot Papa gave me. Eventually, he had to wake me up cause we had a guest after all and I was sprawled out right there on the living room floor. Hey, it's not so bad... I did manage to get myself on a mattress... hehe.

IMAX We finally got to see Matrix. I know, I know... we're probably the last people on earth to see that movie but when it opened a couple of months back, we were still wary to enter the movie house on account of SARS, and then we went home to the Phils., and then Papa went to Australia... we got sidetracked way, way off... heh. But we gave ourselves a concession... we watched it on IMAX. It's soooo good. Everything is so much more than life-size, we can practically see the grooves on the actor's faces. Just goes to show that not everybody on screen has pitch-perfect skin... heh. The theatre itself (Golden Village Theatre out at Dhoby Gaut) was so nice... nice carpet, very comfortable seats with a lot of leg room, very amiable staff and they even got an open-air balcony where people can smoke. It's really nice when establishments like these go out of their way to think about, and provide, what their patrons would need to make them comfortable. Oh, and if you guys ever have a chance to try the theatre, don't forget to get some nachos... the cheese dip is really, really good too.

Leah. Leah is a blogger (she's More than Words on my links) and we arranged to meet for dinner last Sunday. She's my 3rd eb since a started blogging over a year ago. It really was so nice of her to squeeze us into her schedule because she just flew in that Saturday evening from KL and I bet she needed the rest. They took us to Fisherman's Village and it's really a very nice place. It was situated right beside the sea and they had a string of food stalls selling all sorts of food you can think of at very reasonable prices, and the tables were set right there on the sand. Somehow it reminded me of Dakak in Zamboanga and it gave me a very homey feeling.

We were joined by Antonia and Sharon. I'm glad Antonia was able to bring Sharon along cause we haven't seen her for over a year, I think. It's a really nice get-together.

There's Papa and me.

There's Antonia. She used to work with Papa but has moved on to another company who offered her a better IT job (?) with a better paycheck (!). We've kept in touch with each other in spite of and we really are thankful to have her as a friend. She's like a godmother to us here in Singapore... telling us what's happening where, inviting us to places we'd never think of going to and she never gives up trying to drag me out of the house just to keep me company... heh. I love you Antonia.

There's Sharon. Sharon is Antonia's friend from school, here in Sinapore as well as in Australia, and that makes them friends for all of their lives. Sharon is a radio jock and TRIVIA time!... if I got the story right, she's the first Asian media person to have been invited to the Oscar's... the most recent one to be exact. But she's so modest she wouldn't even talk about it... except acknowledging the fact that she got drunk at a party, a story that got out courtesy of Antonia... heh. It's always nice to see Sharon... through her we get a glimpse of the glitter that is Singapore. I only wish we'd get together more often. *hint* *hint* :P

And there's Leah and her hubby Eder. Maybe I should have included her in yesterday's entry where I talked about my meeting with bloggers Belle and Neil. But to me, there's more to meeting Leah than just an eb with co-bloggers. She and Eder are the first Filipino friends we've made here in Singapore... a really slow progress considering that we've been here close to 2 years. You see, we don't go out that often and haven't really joined any Filipino community or association. We're shy eh... hehe. After having met Leah though, I thought to myself, 'Why not, indeed?' Maybe that's the reason why we haven't really settled into a total life here in SG... why everything has a shade of temporariness (?) in them... why wanting to go home for visits are always a must-do rather than something that would be nice if it would be possible. We need to get to know more people here and knowing Pinoys, I except that there is a multitude of them right where we are.

Leah turned out to be a very pleasant girl who likes making friends and enjoys a whole cornucopia of activities... not the least of which is shopping, which I think is a very Singaporean kind of thing... heh. She's fun to talk to and during dinner, I caught a glimpse of what it would be like if Papa and I would really decide to settle and have a life here. Since I started visiting her site weeks ago, my curiousity has been mounting. She has a nice site, pleasant colors and lay-out, very informative with just the right touch of personal things (which is more than I can say about mine... hehe... too personal for some maybe), and she has very down-to-earth insights on things, which often sounds funny the way she writes them. I remember the first entry of hers that I read... it was about a very incoherent... and irritating series of phone calls... in the end she asked, 'Where do these people come from?' hehe... That really made me laugh. I don't know, just something about smart puns put in the right places I guess.

After dinner, Eber was so nice as to give us a ride home... remember this is only the first time we met and I would consider such gestures as one of random kindness under the circumstances. And he wouldn't even drop us off somewhere where we could have very comfortably walked the rest of the way... he literally dropped us at our doorstep. Oh, and we also got an invitation to Leah's birthday to top it all. Yesterday, Leah invited me to a health seminar she and another friend are attending come Saturday and also mentioned about a volunteer work where you would read stories to children at the library.

Already, our world is getting bigger than Papa and I could ever make it by ourselves. Wherever these people came from, we could only be thankful the our paths have crossed.

God is really taking good care of us.

"It's in the simplest existence,in the humblest company and in the emptiest moments that I learned to appreciate what I had... and find happiness right where I was. I didn't have to reach far and dream big. One can only be as big as one sees oneself. The world will always be bigger still... and God, even more."
