IT'S RAININ'! IT'S POURIN'!

My eberdeeres kasin, Alma, acquired, or re-acquired (I'm not exactly sure) her own house just recently. It's her parents' old house, her mom having bought a newer and bigger house. She's been maintaining it for the past year or so, monthly amortization and all. Last month, she was given the option to purchase it... house, land and title and now it's hers... lock, stock and barrel! She's been going ga-ga about all the home improvements she's got in mind... just finished with the spare room. She turned it into a recreation room of sorts, got the entertainment center and computer in it, did the whole room in mustard, even purchased a futon bed in gold, black and red on a rosewood frame. Next project, upgrading the bathrooms.

I'm really happy for her. I know how it is to feel that no matter what happens, you have your very own place where you are lord and master and your word is the first and last. There's a story to this, but of course I can't tell you about it cause it's not mine to tell. But with what happened, she could have easily been defeated... if, and that's a big IF, she was anybody else but my cousin, Alma. The way it goes though, she's got so much sense in her to let this tsunami bring her to a rot. Now she's up with a vengeance and screw anybody who gets in her way. Way to go, cousin!

Last week, my dear, dear friend, Ate Sienna, gave me some good news too. Her papers have been passed and she is now a regular (?)/permanent (?) employee of the company she's been working with for the past year! Now, if you know how much we (we, meaning Ate Sienna, her family, friends and those in the know) have been hoping and hankering for this because of everything that bore into it, you would know why it's such a big thing. And it is!

I couldn't tell you more... again, it's not my story to tell. But I am really, really happy for her. From where I am, I cannot even imagine how it feels to know that where you are is where you rightfully belong. You hold your head high, and you'll take no shit from nobody no more. And the lady luck hasn't only got her marked... the same thing goes for the better half.

Things are really looking up for you, Ate Sienna. Knowing that what you had to give for all these to happen is a lot of love, a lot of faith, a lot of determination and a lot of talent... while meeting hurdle after hurdle with a hearty, healthy laugh... only makes me more in awe of the person you are. This is your playground, and let nobody tell you otherwise. I am really proud to be included among your friends... proud and happy.

Midweek this week, another dear friend, Ate KiwiP, got a clean slate on her health. She's been horrifyingly made to hold her fears for far longer than necessary. It was cruel and totally unfeeling, the way it went, but that's another story. Last Wednesday, the day she was to be given the news, I called her up to ask how it went. Oh blessed joy! She's clean... she's clean, she's good, and she's healthy!

We could have been hugging each other and all the distance between us for all the crying we did on the phone... her for breaking the news to me, me for receiving it, us both for the relief it gave. See, I've just survived a week of being by my lonesome, right? And what have I had to deal with? Loneliness at the most, boredome at the least. But this lady has had to deal with being alone since she moved to New Zealand and I mean ALONE! Oh, she's got friends of course. But we all know that sometimes, that can only go so far. And the things she has had to go through... ayayay! That's why I admire her a lot... for her fortitude and strength and courage. I can spend my whole life trying to be a quarter of what she's made of and I'm not sure I'd be anywhere near it. Congratulations Ateng! Needless to say (err... so why say it? hehe), I am happy for you. Really happy!

And this morning, another friend, Dennis da Bopis, left me a tag saying that he's on his way to Baguio to meet up with masters F. Sionil Jose and Cirilo Bautista cause the guys wanted to check his fiction. What the deal is, I don't know. What the fiction is exactly, I don't know either. All I know is that this chance rarely comes to the rest of us and I can only bask in his good fortune.

Exactly what is my stake on this? See, I'm a hopeful writer myself and if not for the internet, I would have forever been a secret, unread, middle-of-the-road short story writer and a plucky, run of the mill poet. Well, I'm still a middle-of-the-road short story writer and a plucky, run of the mill poet... that hasn't changed. But the internet has afforded me my audience and some have given me very inspiring comments. For whatever it's worth, the word is out. I'm a wannabe.

Dennis though, is another story. He's got his feet planted on his very own ground and his growth is just waiting to happen. My exaltation is that when all these start to bear fruit, I am already a friend who can be happy for him.

I do have my blessing too. In fact, it's coming in about... err... 15 hours from now, sans flight delays... teehee!

"It's in the simplest existence,in the humblest company and in the emptiest moments that I learned to appreciate what I had... and find happiness right where I was. I didn't have to reach far and dream big. One can only be as big as one sees oneself. The world will always be bigger still... and God, even more."
