Yes, it was a perfect week. And not because we won the lottery, nor are we going on another trip, and neither are we going home to the Philippines to stay for good. No... nothing so grand. Just a series of little things that make me feel really good, happening in such close proximity that in the overall, it all comes close to perfection.
We started the week off with another spaghetti Sunday, our first since I got back 2 weeks ago. I also made some Waldorf salad, with 'some' being loosely used to refer to an amount fit to feed a whole battalion. With these dishes done and served, alternated every so often with some cocktail nuts, a whole array of beverages, some fruits and some chocolate biscuits, we were left to spend the day watching movies in the bedroom with the AC running nonstop. It was so hot! I'd sit still for no more than five minutes and I'd be sweating like I walked a mile. But I wasn't sweating then and I didn't have to walk a mile. I was all fed and comfy and so I was happy.
Tuesday night found us in the company of one of Papa's lifelong friends from back home, Mr. Bong Pedro. It was an ultimately comfortable night, the way it happens when you're with old time friends. We went to Esplanade to treat him for some drinks at Harry's Bar (where the Singapore Sling unfortunatley leaves quite a lot to be desired) and dinner at the No Signboard Seafood Restaurant (I am not kidding, it's really the name of the place and it is quite popular here). A few curiosities we found at the Esplanade that night...
Wednesday night, we had dinner at Lorong 9, down in Geylang, where our favorite beef horfun and oyster omelette place can be found. After almost four months, I saw the old and dear friends we've made here in Singapore again... Christine and Ronald, Eder and Owen. Too bad Leah had to be in the Philippines but I did get to see her Friday of the week before, and well, she'll be back by Tuesday and I can't wait!
Thursday night, I got myself a new set of contact lenses. Why would something as mundane as contact lenses make me ecstatic, you ask. These are special lenses and for me, they're miracle lenses! See, along with my diagnosis of diabetes, my doctor had my eye checked and well, true enough, some retinopathy has already started. It's not something I'm really worried about because it's a slow process and can generally be arrested with good blood sugar control. The thing is, with all of this internet activity and the review, I've been putting quite a heavy toll on my eyesight, the effects of which, I could feel more distinctly these past few days.
Last year, I've had some prescription glasses made with these special lenses, called 'progressive lenses' and produced by Hoya. These lenses work this way... the upper part will let your myopic sight see from afar, and the lower part will assist you in reading. I know there is such a lense that old people use which they call the 'doble vista' lense. But this one's different. See, the sides are concave, which will allow continuity of your site from upper portion to lower portion in a more fluid manner than is provided by a 'doble vista' lense.
So since the time I got my new glasses, I've been wearing them all the time and had to forego use of contact lenses cause they weren't of much use to me anyway. But then, last Thursday, I tried to see if they had progressive contact lenses available and... yes! Indeed, they did! So I got 12 pairs made (they only had the disposable ones available and they didn't even come in color... darn!). And believe me, it works like magic. My eyes are like new. I can read small, small writing, I don't have to squint all the time or raise my eyebrows. I'm really happy with this particular technology!
Come Friday, in line with the Philippine independence day celebration, Christine invited us to a photography exhibit at the Singapore Art Museum. Well, we came too late for the show but we had dinner at this nice little Indian restaurant at Boat Quay...

Last night, we had dinner at the GP restaurant in Lucky Plaza down in Orchard Road. This place has got to have the best crispy pata hereabouts... very light and crispy pork skin and pork meat that melts in your mouth.... what's the word? Succulent?
And after dinner, we watched Madagascar. It was a good movie, I was among friends who liked what I liked, I had Papa right beside me, I had my nachos with a double serving of cheese dip and my glass of diet coke. I couldn't be happier!
Oh, and I have the perfect cap to this perfect week.
See, last Friday, I got a letter. It says that...
I PASSED THE NCLEX-RN EXAMINATION!
Yes! Yes! I am now officially, T.H.R. David, RN, BSN!
Like I said...
Perfect!
